Dr. C.J. Riley Awarded ASCE ˿Ƶ 2021 Government Engineer of the Year
Dr. Charles “C.J.” Riley, professor of Civil Engineering at ˿Ƶ Tech, has been selected as the recipient of the 2021 American Society of Civil Engineers ˿Ƶ Section Government Engineer of the Year award.
ASCE’s criteria for Engineer of the Year is an active member of ASCE ˿Ƶ Section for 10 years and active in the engineering profession. The Government Engineer works for a public agency or university. Nominations cover areas of:
˿Ƶ Tech Welcomes Students for Early Orientation
˿Ƶ Tech welcomed 55 first-year students and nontraditional/transfer students to campus for pre-orientation programs focusing on support systems available and how to succeed at ˿Ƶ Tech during the 2021-22 academic year.
The early programs include First-Year Experience Flight School with Housing & Residence Life, SOAR with Student Involvement & Belonging (SIB), and Summer Bridge through the Tech Opportunities Program (TOP). Each program is geared toward a different group of students and focuses on areas of success for each of those groups.
Students in Communication Studies and Professional Writing are developing an app and creating video/print media
Searching for ways to engage their students and show the variety of applications for the Communication Studies and Professional Writing degrees at ˿Ƶ Tech, associate professors Dr. Franny Howes and Dr. Amber Lancaster created two unique summer research projects. While brainstorming ways to offer their students hands-on opportunities, they developed summer internships opportunities for a gender-neutral pronoun app and a video/print media project.
